For the second straight season, Sweeney named second team All-MAC

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University women's basketball sophomore guard Cha Sweeney (Toledo, Ohio-Rogers) has been named to the 2015 All-Mid-American Conference Second Team after an exceptional season for the Eagles. The All-MAC teams are voted on by the league's head coaches.

Sweeney earns the honor for the second consecutive year after also taking home 2014 MAC Freshman of the Year accolades last season.

The 5-foot-2 guard led the Eagles in scoring (15.7 ppg) which ranked as the eighth most in the MAC. In addition to her stellar scoring effort, the Toledo, Ohio native also led the Green and White in steals (2.1 spg) which is second best in the league, while also placing fifth with 3.6 assists per contest. Sweeney also ranked 13th in three point field goals made (1.5) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.3).

Sweeney became the 19th player all-time in EMU history to reach the 1,000-point club. The sophomore guard notched 20 points in the Eagles' March 7 win at Central Michigan to become the second-fastest player in school history to reach the grand total, needing just 61 games.

The Eagles begin their postseason schedule as the sixth seeded team in the MAC Women's Basketball Tournament Monday, March 9, when they host the No. 11 seed, Kent State University. The game is scheduled for 5 p.m. and is the first leg of a doubleheader at the Convocation Center. EMU's men's basketball team earned the No. 8 seed on its side of the MAC Tournament and will host No. 9 Miami University at approximately 7:30 p.m.

The winner advances to play either No. 7 University of Toledo or No. 10 Miami University Wednesday, March 11, at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio. Tipoff for the second round contest is scheduled for approximately 2:30 p.m.
