YPSILANTI, Mich. –
The Eastern Michigan University wrestling team may be done with duals in the 2015 calendar year, but competition is not over yet for the Green and White.  This Sunday, Dec. 20, EMU travels west to participate in the Reno Tournament of Champions in Reno, Nev.  The all-day event pits grapplers from 24 different schools competing for the top spot in their individual weight class, as well as the top team prize.

Results throughout the day can be found at FloWrestling.org.

BACK TO THE "BIGGEST LITTLE CITY": Sunday marks the first time since the 2009-10 season that EMU wrestling is traveling to the "Biggest Little City in the World" for the Reno tournament.  That season Eastern finished in 17th place with 28.5 team points.  The Eagles placed one grappler, David Wade, who finished sixth in the heavyweight division.

LOADED LINEUP: The RTOC lineup includes some of the top teams in the country including NWCA Coaches Poll top-25 teams Oklahoma State (7), Illinois (11), Central Michigan (17), and Indiana (22).  The rest of the participants include Boise State, Cal Poly, Campbell, Clackamas, CSU Bakersfield, CSU Pueblo, Highline College, Menlo College, Montana State Northern, North Dakota State, Northern Colorado, Oregon State, Simon Frasier, Simpson, Southern Oregon, Southwestern Oregon, Stanford, Utah Valley, and Wyoming.

EAGLES SPLIT A PAIR OF MATCHUPS AT INDIANA DUALS: The Eastern Michigan University wrestling team wrapped up its non-conference schedule by splitting a pair of matchups at the Indiana Duals Sunday, Dec. 13.  The Eagles defeated Manchester University, 46-6, while dropping a dual with host Indiana, 25-9.

In the first matchup of the day, despite the final score and final decision count (7-3), the dual was closer than it would indicate.  EMU gave up one major decision and one medical forfeit, while only being outscored by just 12 points in the other five bouts.

Following the tough loss, EMU turned its sights on Division-III opponent Manchester.  The Eagles made quick work of the Spartans, notching five pins, a technical fall, and two major decisions.  The only points allowed were on a forfeit.

UP NEXT ON THE MATS: In the final competition of the 2015 calendar year, the Eagles travel to Evanston, Ill. for the 52nd annual Midlands Championships.  The event, hosted by Northwestern, runs over two days, Dec. 29-30.

DOUBLE TROUBLE: Entering the final season of their storied careers, redshirt seniors Anthony Abro and Vincent Pizzuto are near the top of the EMU record book in career wins.  Abro has 83 career wins, while Pizzuto has 81.  This is good for a tie for eighth place and a tie for ninth place on the all-time list, respectively.  Steve Brown is the program leader in victories, racking up 117 from 1984-88.

ABRO RANKED NATIONALLY: Redshirt senior Anthony Abro is currently ranked 11th at 197 by InterMat wrestling, while also being ranked 17th by TheOpenMat.com  Abro is coming off of his best season as an Eagle, in which he racked up 28 wins, and ended his season with a top-16 finish at the NCAA Championships.  He is currently 12-1 on the year in 2015-16.
