Klara Supejova defeated the No. 75-ranked player in the country
MORAGA, Calif. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University tennis team traveled to Moraga, Calif. to take part in the 2015 Saint Mary's Fall Invitational this weekend, Oct. 9-11. The Eagles finished the first day of action Friday, Oct. 9, following Andrea Martinovska and Klara Supejova's trip to the 2015 Intercollegiate Tennis Association's All-American Championships.
In the doubles draw, Martinovska and Supejova dropped their first match to Saint Mary's Jana McCord and Jamie Pawid, 8-5, before defeating Gonzaga's Nevada Apollo and Alex Bourguigon, 8-7. Anna Veleva and Maria Paula Ribero combined to take down Cal Poly's sister duo of Abigail and Bryn Bacharach, 8-7, but fell to Kelsey Bryant and Tiffany Pham from UC Davis, 8-4.
Heading into singles play, Supejova came out strong in the A Draw, defeating the No. 75-ranked singles player in the country following her retiring with Supejova leading, 5-4, in the opening set. Also in the A Draw, Martinovska dropped a 7-6, 6-2, decision to Lyann Hoang from California. Moving on to the Singles B Draw, Cristina Saenz de Buruaga from Pacific knocked off Veleva, 1-6, 7-6, 6-4, while Fresno State's Olivia Noble defeated Rivero, 6-4, 6-1. Finally, in the C Draw, Renu Sharma lost a 6-1, 6-1 decision to Abigail Bacharach.
Eastern continues the Saint Mary's Fall Invitational Saturday, Oct. 10, at 9:30 a.m. PT when doubles play begins again in Moraga, Calif.
