YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) –
The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team fell to Ohio on the court Saturday afternoon, Oct. 3, in three sets (25-21, 25-23, 25-19). Despite hanging with the Bobcats (14-3; 4-0 MAC) in each of the three sets, the Eagles (9-8; 1-3 MAC) attack struggled to find rhythm in the loss.

Freshman Cassie Haut (Monroe, Mich. - St. Mary Catholic Central) led the Eagles'  attack, hitting a whopping .550 with a match-leading 12 kills. Senior Stacey Perinar (Channahon, Ill. - Minooka Community) joined Haut in double figures with 11 kills. On the defensive side, senior Corynne Smith (Norwalk, Ohio - St. Paul) led the Green and White with 16 digs and three assists. Additionally, redshirt freshman Mallory Rajewski (Midland, Mich. - Midland) notched a match-high 35 assists while adding seven digs and four kills on the night.

In the opening frame, the Eagles hit at a .200 clip while Ohio managed to hit .351. Haut and Perinar both had four kills in the set, while Rajewski posted 13 assists. Smith notched six digs, but the Green and White ultimately could not overcome the Bobcat attack, falling in the first set, 25-21.

The EMU offense fared much better in the second set, posting an attack percentage of .250 behind six kills from Haut. Again, Rajewski was superb, posting 15 assists and four digs while redshirt senior Katie Krasowski (Oak Lawn, Ill. - Marist) posted five digs in the set. The Eagles came back from an early deficit in the set to take a 22-21 lead late, forcing an Ohio timeout.  Out of the break, Perinar crushed a Rajewski set for a kill, extending the Eagles' lead to two. Unfortunately for the Green and White, the Bobcat attack caught fire late, rattling off four consecutive points to take the set, 25-21.

Following the break, both teams' attack percentage dropped dramatically, with the Eagles only hitting .114 while the Bobcats finished with a .139 clip in the final set. EMU held the Bobcats to their lowest single-set attacking percentage of the Mid-American Conference season, but the Ohio defense kept the Eagles in check. Smith posted nine digs in the final set, while Rajewski managed seven assists. Perinar led the Eagles offense with four kills, but the team could not overcome the Bobcat defense, with Ohio coming out ahead 25-19.

EMU continues the MAC portion of their schedule at home next week, with the Eagles hosting a match against Toledo, Friday. Oct. 9, and Ball State, Saturday Oct. 10.
