Eastern Michigan's men's basketball team will be in its fourth season with Rob Murphy as its head coach in 2014-15. The Eagles will have its top-three scorers returning in Karrington Ward (Lockport, Ill.-Lockport Township (Moraine Valley C.C.)), Mike Talley (Detroit, Mich.-Melvindale ABT (Duquesne)) and Raven Lee (Detroit, Mich.-Romulus). The Green and White lost eight letterwinners from the 22-win 2013-14 squad, but have a fresh look with talent and experience coming in. Murphy brings in three freshmen, along with four transfer student-athletes that will fill the vacancies. EMU's success last season was due in large part to the stingy Eastern Michigan defense. EMU held teams to just a 36.9 field goal percentage, which ranked as the best in the NCAA. Eastern Michigan's 2013-14 men's hoops team prided itself on defense en route to winning 22 games this season, the most since the 1996-97 season, while also making its way to the Mid-American Conference Tournament semifinals for the first time since the 1997-98 season. EMU also made its first postseason tournament, earning a berth in the 2014 CollegeInsider.com Tournament.

"We were able to configure a competitive, balanced schedule that will include18 home contests," remarked Coach Murphy. "Hosting our multi-team event along with competing against five of six local NCAA Division I universities should be exciting for our program and our fans."

The EMU women's basketball team under the direction of Head Coach Tory Verdi returns six players from the 2013-14 roster, including MAC Freshman of the Year Cha Sweeney (Toledo, Ohio-Rogers), as well as adds six freshmen and two transfers for the upcoming season. Last year, the Eagles tied for 17th nationally in a list of most improved Division I programs in 2013-14.  The Eagles finished 18-14 with an increase of 10 wins and a nine-game improvement in overall record.

"I am really looking forward to this season with our returners and the newcomers we have added to the program," said Verdi. "We are looking to capitalize on the success we had last year and achieve our goal of a Mid-American Conference Championship. To prepare ourselves for the MAC and the postseason, we have put together a challenging non-conference schedule."

Don't forget that Eastern's men's basketball squad will be hosting a multi-team round robin event in which Longwood, UNC-Greensboro and Youngstown State will come to the Convocation Center for a tournament. This will pit all four teams against each other in three days. Each day will consist of two games which will provide basketball fans with a jam packed weekend of exciting action.
