Wrestling Unveils 2014-15 Slate

First year Head Coach David Bolyard and his team will host six duals at the Convocation Center in 2014-15

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Eastern Michigan University Head Wrestling Coach David Bolyard unveiled his team's schedule for the 2014-15 season Monday, Sept. 22. The schedule is highlighted by six home duals inside the Convocation Center, while the Eagles will hit the road 12 times during the 2014-15 campaign.

The Green and White will face four teams that placed in the top-25 of last year's NCAA Championships: Northwestern University (ninth), the University of Missouri (14th), University of Northern Iowa (15th), and Old Dominion University (23rd).

EMU is coming off its first winning season since the 2011-12 campaign, posting a 13-7 overall record and a 3-4 record in the Mid-American Conference. The Eagles sent  four grapplers to the 2014 NCAA National Championships, while former head coach Derek DelPorto became the winningest coach in program history with 85 victories in his eight year tenure.

Eastern Michigan opens its second-consecutive season at the MSU Open in East Lansing, Mich. Saturday, Nov. 2. The Green and White returns to Ypsilanti Saturday, Nov. 15, when it welcomes Northwestern, Southern Illinois-Edwardsville and Lock Haven for the EMU Duals, while a slew of teams will come to Bowen Field House to compete in the EMU Duals and EMU Open.

Following the home event, the Eagles will hit the road to close out the month of November and the entire month of December before opening up its Mid-American Conference slate Sunday, Jan. 4 against the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa at 2 p.m. The Eagles finish out its eight-match road trip with back-to-back duals in Pennsylvania as the Green and White will  take on Clarion, Jan. 9, before competing in the Pitt Duals in Pittsburgh, Pa., Jan. 10.

EMU will host its first dual of the 2015 season inside the Convocation Center Thursday, Jan. 15 against Cleveland State before taking on MAC opponent Ohio University, Jan. 18, and Big 10 foe Michigan State University, Jan. 23,  at the Convo.

The Eagles will continue their 2014-15 conference slate with two away duals against Kent State, Jan. 30, and Northern Illinois, Feb. 6, before returning to the friendly confines of the Convo for home duals against Missouri, Feb. 8, and Old Dominion, Feb. 13. EMU will travel one final time in the regular season as it takes on the University at Buffalo, Feb. 15.

Eastern Michigan closes out its regular season with a dual against Central Michigan Friday, Feb. 20 inside the Convocation Center before hitting the road for the 2015 MAC Championships, March 7-8, in Columbia, Mo. The EMU grapplers will look to earn a spot at the NCAA Championships, which will be held in St. Louis, Mo., March 19-21.
