DETROIT, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University football team was picked to finish sixth in the Mid-American Conference West Division determined by select members of the league's media contingent. The annual preseason poll was released Wednesday, July 23, at the conference's 2014 football media day held at Ford Field.
The Eagles received 24 votes in the annual poll with Toledo selected first in the West Division with 114 points followed by Northern Illinois (110), Ball State (82), Central Michigan (67), Western Michigan (44) and EMU.
Bowling Green was chosen to win the East Division title with 144 points while Akron was second at 114. Ohio was chosen third in the East with 107 points followed in order by Buffalo (87), Kent State (72), Miami (43) and Massachusetts (23).
This obviously reflects on the competitive nature of the MAC. In the last five years the conference has witnessed six different programs compete in the Marathon MAC Football Championship Game and in just the last three years 10 different MAC football programs have appeared in a bowl game.
A total of five teams received votes for winning the annual Marathon MAC Football Championship Game between the winners of the West and East Divisions. BGSU led the way with 11 votes, while Toledo gained sixvotes. Central Michigan, Northern Illinois and Akron each also received votes.
Eastern Michigan opens fall training camp Sunday, Aug. 3, when both freshmen and upperclassmen report. Photo day and the inaugural youth day event is set for Saturday, Aug. 16, in Rynearson Stadium.
Fans can catch Head Coach Chris Creighton and the rest of the Eagles kick off the 2014 season at home against Morgan State, Aug. 30. Single game and season tickets are now on sale online at EMUEagles.com, by calling 734.487.2282 or by visiting the EMU Ticket Office daily between 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Ticket prices start at just $12 for adults and $5 for youth 12-and-under.
