EMU will take on the No.1-seeded RedHawks at noon

OXFORD, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team continued to win Saturday, April 26, at the 2014 Mid-American Conference Championships in Oxford, Ohio. The Eagles swept Ball State University, 4-0, using three singles wins and the doubles point. With the victory, Eastern not only avenged a 4-3 loss versus the Cardinals, April 12, but the Eagles advanced to the MAC Championship Match Sunday, April 27, where they will square off with host Miami University at the Hepburn Varsity Tennis Courts for a noon match. In addition to all of the excitement, Head Women's Tennis Coach Ryan Ray picked up his 100th win as an NCAA Division I tennis coach.

Eastern won the doubles point, but it was not easy. After Diana Davitaia and Maria Paula Ribero took down Kristel Sanders and Toni Ormond, 8-5, Ball State's Ayaka Terashi and Courtney Wild return-fired with an 8-6 victory at No. 3 defeating EMU's Mariya Toncheva and Daphne Friedrichs. It came down to Nino Mebuke and Klara Supejova versus Cortney Earnest and Bethany Moore. The Eagle duo had yet to lose to a MAC foe all season and remained unbeaten against conference opponents by coming out on the better side of an 8-7 final.

Just like the day before, Eastern cruised in singles as well. Davitaia was first to finish, defeating Earnest, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2 singles to remain undefeated versus MAC opponents. Next up was Friedrichs in the No. 5 spot. She blanked Moore, 6-0, 6-0, to give EMU a 3-0 lead. Finally, Ribero finished the 4-0 decision by dispatching Ashlyn Rang, 6-4, 6-4, which moved the Green and White into the MAC Championship Match.

"This match was a great show of heart and determination," remarked Ray. "I couldn't be prouder of the ladies today, but we know the job isn't finished and we will fight with everything we have tomorrow!"

The Eagles will take on Miami tomorrow for the distinction of being named the 2014 MAC Tournament Champions at the Hepburn Varsity Tennis Courts in Oxford. First serve is slated for noon.
