EMU Football Names 2014 Team Captains

Pudge Cotton, Lincoln Hansen and Pat O'Connor serve as captains in 2014
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University's football team has announced its team captains for the 2014 campaign. Providing leadership for the squad will be seniors Pudge Cotton (Maywood, Ill.-Walther Lutheran) and Lincoln Hansen (Omaha, Neb.-Millard North), along with junior Pat O'Connor (Chicago, Ill.-Saint Rita).
The captain trio was decided by a team vote during the 2014 spring season.
"Our football team did an outstanding job in choosing our team captains for 2014," added Head Coach Chris Creighton. "These three guys have been instrumental in helping lead our program this winter and spring and will be difference makers on the field in the fall. It is a huge honor to be voted a captain by teammates and coaches and I believe they will make us proud."
Cotton, a defensive back for the Eagles, has appeared in 29 games donning the Green and White and started all 12 contests during the 2013 season, racking up 36 total tackles. He has been an integral part of the EMU defense for the past two seasons, posting 102 tackles and two interceptions throughout 24 games.
A 2013 All-MAC selection, Hansen started all 12 games in the 2013 campaign at right tackle. The senior helped EMU rack up 1,896 yards on the ground and 2,137 yards through the air, with each total ranking 12th-most in EMU history. Hansen was also honored as a 2013 Harold E. Sponberg Lineman Scholar-Athlete Award recipient.
O'Connor has appeared in every game during his two years as an Eagle, and was honored as the 2013 John E. Borowiec Most Valuable Defensive Player for his efforts during the most recent campaign. The Chicago, Ill. native recorded 44 tackles on the season, and was second on the team in both tackles for loss (5.0) and sacks (4.0).
Cotton, Hansen, O'Connor, and the rest of the Eagles will hit the gridiron for the first time in the 2014 season with a home opener against Morgan State University Saturday, Aug. 30, inside Rynearson Stadium. Season tickets are now on sale for the five-game home slate, which includes four contests against MAC foes. Tickets can be purchased at EMUTix.com or by calling 734.487.2282.
