GENEVA, Ohio (EMUEagles.com)—Eastern Michigan University's women's swimming and diving team wrapped up the third and final day of the 2014 Mid-American Conference Swimming and Diving Championships, Saturday, March 1, with a fourth-place finish.  The Eagles finished behind the University of Akron, which won its first championship title in program history with 574 points, Miami University (496), and Bowling Green State University (476).

One Eagle was crowned MAC Champion as junior Jessie Godlewski (Apex, N.C.-Apex) reprised her MAC victory in the 200 fly, winning with a 1:58.37 finish over one second ahead of runner-up Beth Rogers of Toledo.  Freshman Carly Jackson (La Porte, Ind.-La Porte) finished fourth in the first conference meet of her career in 2:00.38, which ranks as the third-fastest time in EMU history.  The Eagles boasted the most competitors in the finals heat for the event, as Jackie Swartz (Centerville, Ohio-Centerville) took the seventh spot in 2:03.69.

Success also came by way of Monica Dorszewski (Palatine, Ill.-Palatine) in the 200 breast.  The junior notched her second NCAA consideration mark of the meet when she took fourth in the well-fielded 200 breast, touching in at 2:15.48.  Her finish is the second-best mark among all-time performances, and freshman Genna Worthley (Portland, Maine-Deering) edged her way into the 10th spot on the list as she clocked in at 2:18.47.

The Green and White had one more top-eight finisher between the lane lines in the first event of the evening when Audra Burtch (Concord, Ind.-Goshen) took fifth in the 1650 free with a 16:48.13.  Freshman Grace Van Allen (Indianapolis, Ind.-North Central) took 10th in 16:57.88, which earns her a spot in EMU laurels as the seventh-best time in the event.

Two more individual events were swum in the final day of competition.  The freshman pair of Alexis Mitcheltree (Moon Twp., Pa.-Moon Area) and Haley Shaw (Fenton, Mich.-Fenton) notched two top-10 times in the 100 back, led by Mitcheltree's 2:02.32 mark, ranking as the fifth-fastest time.  Shaw finished her preliminary round race in 2:02.97, good for the seventh spot.  In the 100 free, the sophomore duo of Becca Detro (Carmel, Ind.-Carmel) and Mary Kate MacLean (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.-Detroit) competed in the B final.  Detro's 51.20 mark earned her the eighth spot on the elite EMU performance list, while MacLean edged out her teammate in the preliminary round in 51.14 to claim the rights to the seventh-best time.

The 3-meter diving competition also completed its championship round on the final day of the Championships, during which Lauren Dark (Chelsea, Mich.-Chelsea) took third with a score of 337.35 points.  Redshirt-senior Danielle Hulvey (Pickerington, Ohio-Central) amassed 330.95 points to take fourth, while Melynee Saya (Nashua, N.H.-Nashua) took the seventh spot with 290.05 points.

Swimming in the final event of the meet, the 400 free relay team of Godlewski, MacLean, Detro, and Sara Ghaffari (Bolinas, Sweden-Torsbergsgynsasiet) finished fifth in 3:24.33.  At the close of the meet, Hulvey was named Most Outstanding Diver for the second consecutive year and earned All-MAC First Team honors along with Godlewski.  Dorszewski also landed on the All-MAC Second Team for her efforts.

The NCAA Zone C Diving Championships will be held March 14-17, after which the NCAA Championships will be held in Minneapolis, Minn., March 20-22.
