EMU Sweeps Kangaroos in 7-0 Win

Eastern knocked off UMKC at the Jayhawk Tennis Center

LAWRENCE, Kansas (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University tennis team cruised to a sweeping victory Saturday, Feb. 8, over the University of Missouri-Kansas City. With the 7-0 win, Eastern now owns a 6-2 record for the season.

Nino Mebuke and Klara Supejova led the way in doubles, taking down Dimitra Stavrianakou and Linda Ammar Mouhoub, 6-0, at No. 1 , followed by 6-3 decisions at No. 2 and 3. Diana Davitaia and Maria Paula Ribero knocked off Gaby Pintos and Maddie Schulte at No. 2 doubles, while Mariya Toncheva and Zsofia Biro defeated Mariam Kurasbediani and Amelie Amsallem, 6-3, at the No. 3 spot. Sweeping the doubles matches gave EMU the first point.

The Eagles swept the singles matches, allowing them to fly to a 7-0 victory. Supejova put down Stavrianakou at No. 1 singles (3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (7)), while Davitaia defeated Raquel Argenal (6-2, 6-1) at the No. 2 spot. Mebuke swept Amsallem (6-2, 6-0) and Toncheva's 6-1, 6-0 decision gave Eastern at win at No. 4 singles. Daphne Friedrichs knocked off Kurasbediani (6-1, 6-1) at No. 5, while Ribero took home the No. 6 match (7-5, 6-1).

"We played a pretty complete match today, which was good to see," said Head Coach Ryan Ray. "We had to work for, and earn a lot of our points today.  It's important we keep the same energy and intensity against a good KU squad tomorrow."

The Eagles take on Big 12 opponent Kansas University Sunday, Feb. 9. The Green and White will square off with the Jayhawks at 10 a.m. at the Jayhawk Tennis Center.
