Women's Track and Field Finishes First Day of Meyo Invitational

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (EMUEagles.com)—Eastern Michigan University's women's track and field team completed the first day of the Meyo Invitational, hosted by the University of Notre Dame.
The Green and White got off to a strong start, as freshman Natalie Uy (Kettering, Ohio-Fairmont) recorded a personal best of 3.85 meters/12 feet 7.50-inches in the pole vault to take the runner-up spot in the event. Her mark also qualified her to compete in the 2014 Mid-American Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship, Feb. 28-Mar. 1. In the following event, another personal-best was set as Pauline Chiariglione (Ajaccio, France-University of Nice) leapt for 5.60 meters/18 feet 4.50-inches to take the 19th spot in the long jump.
Aaliyah McKinney (South Bend, Ind.-John Adams), performing in front of a home crowd, was the lone Eagle to make it through a preliminary round. Her time of 7.66 in the 60m dash was in the top portion of the field, but the sophomore just missed the cut in the semifinal round, clocking in at 7.73. Also competing in the preliminary rounds of the 60m hurdles was the French duo of Chiariglione and Sarah Chauchard (Montpellier, France-University of Montpellier). Chauchard barely missed out on the semifinal round with a mark of 8.87 seconds, and Chiariglione ran a sub-nine second time for the second consecutive meet.
Four more events took place over the course of the evening. In the high jump, senior Kate Wolanin (Oxford, Mich.-Oxford) cleared 1.69 meters/5 feet 4.50-inches to take the fourth spot in the event. Also on the field was Adrienne Waisner (Napoleon, Ohio-Napoleon), who threw for 14.69 meters/48 feet 2.50-inches in the weight throw.
On the track, Kayla Pfund (Shelby Twp., Mich.-Lutheran North (Macomb)) was the top finisher for the Green and White in the 5000m, crossing the line at 17:41.63. To wrap up the events, the distance medley relay team of Marina Manjon-Rivadulla (Barcelona, Spain-Escola University), Iesha Hardiman (Santa Clara, Calif.-Adrian Wilcox), Rebecca Quaintance (White Lake, Mich.-Walled Lake Northern), and Taylor Knoll (Warren, Mich.-Mott (Lansing)) took eighth with a time of 12:15.57.
