—Eastern Michigan University's women's swimming and diving day completed the second day of the 2014 Mid-American Conference Swimming and Diving Championships, Feb. 28 at the SPIRE Institute.  With the tallies from all events thus far, the Eagles have dropped to fifth place with 291 points, as the Akron Zips retain their lead with 378.

In the five individual event heats, at least two Eagles landed on the all-time top-10 performance list for each race.

Following the 200 medley relay, in which the team of Mary Kate MacLean (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.-Detroit Country Day), Monica Dorszewski (Palatine, Ill.-Palatine), Jackie Swartz (Centerville, Ohio-Centerville), and Becca Detro (Carmel, Ind.-Carmel) finished eighth in 1:43.96, junior Jessie Godlewski (Apex, N.C.-Apex) turned in the fifth-best performance in EMU program history when she clocked a time of 4:22.24 in the 400 IM.  Godlewski was the sole Eagle to make it to the final heat, while sophomore Audra Burtch (Goshen, Ind.-Concord) took 15th overall and seventh in the consolation bracket.  Her preliminary round mark of 4:26.29 was also a top-10 all-time performance, as the sophomore now holds the sixth spot on the list.

Senior Swartz made her mark in EMU laurels during her capstone season, turning out a 55.11-second performance in the 100 fly, which is the top all-time finish for the Eagles.  Rookie swimmer Carly Jackson (La Porte, Ind.-La Porte) etched her name into the record books as well, as she finished first in the consolation heat and ninth overall.  Her preliminary mark of 55.50 was a hair faster than her final time, and puts her at third in the program rankings.

Pacing the Green and White in the 200 free was Detro, who finished eighth behind a 1:50.78 finish. Grace Van Allen (Indianapolis, Ind.-North Central) represented the team in the B final, as both swimmers had marks that put them in elite company among the program's fastest swimmers.  Detro's time of 1:49.96 in the preliminary heat puts her at sixth all-time, while Van Allen's 1:50.82 finish gives her the eighth spot.

In addition to earning two top-three times in the 100 breast, Dorszewski and Genna Worthley (Portland, Maine-Deering) are the only Eagles to earn NCAA consideration marks thus far.  Dorszewski was the third swimmer to touch in at 1:02.22, which ranks as the fastest time by any member of the Green and White, and Worthley had a breakout performance in the B final with a 1:02.48 finish, good for third on the all-time list.

The squad wrapped up the individual events in the lanes with the 100-yard backstroke.  Haley Shaw (Fenton, Mich.-Fenton) and MacLean both competed in the consolation heat, clocking in at 56.74 and 57.16, respectively.  In the preliminary rounds, both Shaw and MacLean recorded top program times, along with Sara Ghaffari (Bolinas, Sweden-Torsbergsgynasiet).  Shaw's time of 56.47 is good for fourth on the list, MacLean earned her spot in sixth place with a 56.59 mark, and Ghaffari rounds out the group after a 56.89-second effort reserves the ninth spot for the junior.

The evening ended with the 800-yard freestyle relay, when Godlewski, Van Allen, Detro, and Dorszewski teamed up for a fourth-place finish behind a 7:24.07 finish.

The Eagles will start their final day of competition tomorrow, March 1, with preliminary rounds beginning at 11 a.m. with finals to follow at 7 p.m.  Live stats and video streaming will be available through mac-sports.com.
