—With six events completed on the first day of the 2014 Mid-American Conference Swimming and Diving Championships, the Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team currently sits in third place with 148 points behind Akron (201) and Miami (167).

The Eagles saw a handful of terrific performances in the 500 free, which placed four members of the Green and White on the list of top-10 all-time performances.  Freshman Grace Van Allen (Indianapolis, Ind.-North Central) finished seventh in the finals round behind a 4:55.86 mark, but her preliminary round time of 4:54.48 is good for the sixth-fastest performance in EMU history.  Nabbing the fourth spot on the list is sophomore Becca Detro (Carmel, Ind.-Carmel), who finished third in the consolation round and 11th overall in 4:52.85.  Also landing on the list are freshman Carly Jackson (La Porte, Ind.-La Porte) with an all-time fifth-best time of 4:54.31 and junior Monica Dorszewski (Palatine, Ill.-Palatine), who touched in at 4:54.61 for the seventh spot on the list.

Jessie Godlewski (Apex, N.C.-Apex) saw a career-best time in the 200 IM after taking sixth with a 2:02.67 finish.  Her time also ranks in the best performances in the history of the program as the fourth-fastest finish in the event.  Senior Jackie Swartz (Centerville, Ohio-Centerville) was also a point winner for the Green and White with a 12th place finish backed by a 2:03.92 mark.

Rounding out the individual swimmers who made it through to the finals heats was sophomore Mary Kate MacLean (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.-Detroit Country Day), who took eighth in the 50 free.  MacLean also notched a career-best time in the preliminary round as she touched in at 23.26, which stands as the fifth-fastest performance on the all-time list.

Redshirt-senior Danielle Hulvey (Pickerington, Ohio-Central) retained her championship title on the 1-meter springboard with 309.65 points in the final round of the event, and will look to sweep the diving competition with a second consecutive win in the 3-meter dive tomorrow.  Junior Lauren Dark (Chelsea, Mich.-Chelsea) also saw action in the finals round, finishing eighth with 253.60 points.  Three other Eagles contributed to the point total, as Melynee Saya (Nashua, N.H.-Nashua), Karly Taylor (Munster, Ind.-Munster), and Hannah Cochran (Pendleton, Ind.-Pendleton Heights) each finished in the top-15 of the field.

The Eagles also competed in two relays for the opening day of the conference meet.  MacLean, Swartz, and Godlewski teamed up with junior Sara Ghaffari (Bolinas, Sweden-Torsbergsgynasiet) in the 200 free relay to tie for seventh with Ohio's swimmers as both squads touched in at 1:33.95.  In the final event of the evening, rookie Alexis Mitcheltree (Moon Twp., Pa.-Moon Area) joined veteran swimmers Dorszewski, Swartz, and Godlewski to take sixth in the 400 medley relay, finishing in 3:44.03.

Preliminary rounds for the second day of competition will begin tomorrow, Feb. 28, at 11 a.m., beginning with the 400 IM.  Finals will begin at 7 p.m., which will also feature the 200 medley relay and the 800 free relay.  Live results can be viewed here
