A Look Inside the Program's 7-0 Start
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- After its first 7-0 start since the 1995-96 season, which ties for the best start in Eastern Michigan University men's basketball history, since joining the NCAA. The Eagles see themselves poised to make a run at the Mid-American Conference Championship after winning one tournament, the EMU Showcase, already this season.
The 2014-15 Eastern team earned a spot in the CollegeInsider.com Men's Mid-Major Top 25 Poll for the second time in program history. Head Coach Rob Murphy's Eagles claimed the 20th spot CollegeInsider.com announced Monday, Dec. 1, as voted on by a 31-member panel of head coaches from different mid-major universities across the nation. It is the 16th season CollegeInsider.com has provided the nation with mid-major top 25 rankings. It is Eastern's second time appearing in the poll and highest ranking overall. A 31-point margin of victory over Marygrove in the EMU's latest contest, Dec. 1, marked the third-straight game in which the Eagles bested an opponent by at least 30 points.
Individually for the Green and White, Raven Lee (Detroit, Mich.-Romulus) and Karrington Ward (Lockport, Ill.-Lockport Township (Moraine Valley C.C.)) have been the offensive catalysts posting 15.0 and 14.0 points per contest, respectively. Mike Talley (Detroit, Mich.-Melvindale ABT (Duquesne)) has posted 10.3 points per game coming off of the bench this season, while Anali Okoloji (Brooklyn, N.Y.-Impact Basketball Academy (George Mason)) has tallied 9.7 points and 5.6 rebounds per contest in his first season as an Eagle.
The Eagles' first road contest of the year comes against a University of Dayton squad that competed in last year's Regional Final (Elite Eight) of the NCAA Tournament. Game time is slated for 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at UD Arena. The game will feature the fourth all-time meeting between the Eagles and Flyers and will be broadcast on Fox Sports Ohio.
