Jill Briner Named Capital One CoSIDA First Team Academic All-America Honoree

She is just the second EMU volleyball student-athlete to be named to the CoSIDA All-America list

AUSTIN, Texas (EMUEagles.com) -- Eastern Michigan University volleyball student-athlete Jill Briner (Oak Park, Ill.-Oak Park and River Forest (Northeastern)) has been recognized as a member of the Capital One Academic All-America First Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), Dec. 11. Briner was one-of-two Mid-American Conference student-athletes selected for the NCAA Division I CoSIDA Academic All-America teams.

She is the first CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-America award winner since Jill Wolosiansky earned third team honors during the 2008 campaign. In addition to being the first Academic All-America award winner since 2008, she is just the second CoSIDA Captial One Academic All-America in EMU history only first team selection in Eastern laurels.

Briner, an accounting major with a 4.0 grade point average, recently completed her senior year at Eastern Michigan. The Eagles' setter was a permanent fixture in the EMU lineup since joining the squad prior to the 2013 campaign. In her all-america season, Briner averaged 9.10 assists per frame, but became a dual-threat for the EMU offense, posting 1.87 kills per set, while hitting at a team-best .301 clip.  As the Green and White's primary setter, Briner has shown her versatility on the defensive side of the net as well. The five-foot, ten-inch setter averaged 2.45 digs per set, along with 0.36 blocks per game. In her final season as an Eagle, Briner was also named a First Team All-MAC honoree.
