Eagles Finish Out Day Two of the Panther Invite

Multiple EMU athletes continue play into Sunday

MIAMI, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University's tennis team finished up day two of the 2014 Panther Invitational Saturday, Nov. 1. The tournament was hosted by Florida International in Miami.
 
The Eagles started things out in doubles play where Andrea Martinovska and Klara Supejova took down Julianna Curtis and Breana Stampfli from Florida Gulf Coast, 8-1, in Flight A. In Flight B, Daphne Friedrichs and Alejandra Barcelo Almoyna dropped an 8-4 decision to FIU's Carlotta Orlando and Nina Nagode while Ani Gogvadze and Maria Paula Ribero fell in the fifth place match, 8-2, against Barry's Sonja Larsen and Karina Goia.
 
Moving on to singles action, Supejova and Gogvadze took their matches in straight sets in the consolation quarterfinals of Flight A, while Friedrichs dropped a two-setter to Sarah Means from FGCU. In the semifinal of the consolations, Supejova knocked off Nova Southeastern's Sabrina Kierberg, 6-3,6-4, but Gogvadze fell 6-2, 6-0 to Means. Friedrichs was able to defeat NSU's Iryna Serdyuk, 4-6, 7-5, 6-1.
 
In Flight B, Ribero took a bye, while Almoyna and Martinovska moved into the consolation semifinals with ease. In the semis, Ribero dropped a 6-4, 6-3 match. Martinovska and Almoyna each won their matches against Nova Southeastern opponents to continue play at the Panther Invitational.
 
The Eagles will complete the Panther Invitational Sunday, Nov. 2, which will mark the end of the fall season for the Eastern Michigan tennis team.
