EMU Wrestling Volunteeers at Girls on the Run Super Hero 5K

The wrestling team helped with the fundraiser event for the Girls on the Run of Southeastern Michigan scholarship fund
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University wrestling squad volunteered its time at the Girls on the Run Super Hero 5K at the Hudson Mills Metropark in Dexter, Mich. Saturday, Oct. 25.
Girls on the Run is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams. The organization was established in 1996 in Charlotte, N.C. and seeks to provide pre-adolescent girls with the necessary tools to embrace their individual strengths and successfully navigate through life experiences.
The group meets twice a week and learns life skills through dynamic, interactive lessons and running games. The 24-hour curriculum includes three parts: understanding themselves, valuing relationships, as well as teamwork and understanding how they connect with and shape the world at large. At each season's conclusion, the girls and their running buddies complete a 5k running event which gives them a tangible sense of achievement as well as a framework for setting and achieving life goals.
The Eagle wrestlers encouraged runners while acting as course marshalls in all three events of the afternoon. "It was a fun and rewarding experience for our guys to help out at the Girls On The Run Super Hero 5k race," said Head Coach David Bolyard. "It was great to be able give back to the community and see all the runners dressed up as their favorite super heroes."
The Green and White kicks off its 2014-15 campaign Sunday, Nov. 2 when it heads to East Lansing, Mich. for the MSU Open.
