The Eagles will close out the fall season Saturday, Oct. 18, at 11 a.m.
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University baseball team will conclude the fall ball season with the final game of the annual Green/White Series Saturday morning, Oct. 18, at Oestrike Stadium. The Green Team, led by assistant coach Eric Roof, will look to complete the series sweep over the White Team, managed by volunteer assistant coach Jordan Keur, at 11 a.m.
The Green Team took the first game of the fall series, 1-0, Oct. 13. Both squads had trouble adjusting to the dominant pitching on both sides, but ultimately Roof's team broke through at the right time with a Michael Mioduszewski double in the fourth inning to score Luke DeVenney for the game's only run. Devon Bronson closed out the contest with 2.1 hitless innings and three strikeouts. For Keur's team, Joe Kennedy shouldered much of the offensive load, reaching base twice with a double and a walk, but runners left on base came back to haunt the White Team. Jake Andrews was registered with the loss, although he was effective through four innings, allowing just one run on two hits to go along with three strikeouts.
In game two, Oct. 15, both offenses came alive as the two squads combined to score nine runs. Once again it was the Green Team that mustered a 6-3 win to clinch the series. Mioduszewski and Jordan Peterson went 2-for-3 at the dish as both Eagles smacked a double. With three ducks on the pond in the third inning, Peterson's two-bagger cleared the bases off White Team starter Michael Marsinek. On the mound, Charlie Land earned the victory for Roof's team, surrendering just one run over 3.2 innings. For the White Team, Josh Birnberg and John Montgomery each recorded a double to go along with their two-hit afternoons. Keur's team mustered runs in the second, fifth and sixth innings but Matthew Beaton was able to close it out for the Green Team in the three-run victory.
Although the Green Team has already clinched the series, the White Team will have one last chance to notch a victory before the end of fall ball. First pitch of game three is set for 11 a.m. from the friendly confines of Oestrike Stadium, and the public is welcome to attend.
