Eagles Complete Day One at the Hoosier Classic

The Green and White finished its first day in Bloomington
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern University women's tennis team completed day one of the Hoosier Classic hosted by Indiana University, Sept. 27-29, in Bloomington, Ind.
In singles play, freshman Maria Paula Ribero (Bucaramanga, Columbia) picked up the Eagles only win of the afternoon in the Green Draw, defeating Western Michigan's Yuriko Ono, 6-2, 6-3. The win marks the second of Ribero's collegiate career.
Eastern suffered a loss in the Crimson Draw as Diana Davitaia (Tbilisi, Georgia-Cowley County Community College) fell to Indiana's Sophie Garre 5-2 and retired the second set, while Ankita Bhatia (Gurgaon, India-Delhi Public Schools) was defeated by IU's Shannon Murdy (6-2, 6-2) in the Gold Draw.
The Green and White's final single action of the day came from Daphene Fredrichs (Hufingen, Germany-Elisa Brandstrom Schule) who took Western's Barbare Eristavi to three sets. Fredrichs defeated Eristavi 7-6 in set one before falling in set two and the tiebreaker (6-3, 1-0).
In doubles action, the team of Mariya Toncheva (Burgas, Bulgaria-Sport Scholl Vasil Levski) and Bhatia suffered a loss to Western as they were unable to claim a point in the 8-0 defeat, while Davitaia and Ribero fell 8-3 to Indiana. The Toncheva/Bhatia duo knocked off the University of Cincinnati's Sullivan and Bellinger, 8-6.
The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 28 as round three of doubles play will start at 10:30 a.m. and singles round two will start at 11:45 a.m. Eastern's Klara Supejova (Prague, Czech Republic-Sportovni Gymnazium Klandno) and Nino Mebuke (Tbilisi, Georgia-English-Spanish School) will begin play in the ITA All-American Championships on Saturday afternoon in Los Angeles, Calif.
