MAC Releases Football Preseason Prognostications at Media Day

DETROIT, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University football team was picked to finish sixth in the Mid-American Conference West Division determined by members of the league's media contingent. The annual preseason poll was released Tuesday, July 23, at the conference's 2013 football media day held at Ford Field.

The Eagles received 29 votes in the annual poll with Northern Illinois selected first in the West Division with 138 points followed by Toledo (122), Ball State (108), Central Michigan (67), Western Michigan (61) and EMU.

Ohio was chosen to win the East Division title with 164 points while Bowling Green was a close second at 154. Kent State was chosen third in the East with 119 points followed in order by Buffalo (101), Miami (78), Akron (53) and Massachusetts (29).

This obviously reflects on the competitive nature of the MAC. In the last four years, the conference has witnessed five different programs compete in the Marathon MAC Football Championship Game and 10 of the 13 football programs have appeared in a bowl game in that span.

A total of five teams received votes for winning the annual Marathon MAC Football Championship Game between the winners of the West and East Divisions. NIU led the way with 14 votes, while Toledo gained three votes. Bowling Green, Ball State and Central Michigan each also received votes.

Eastern Michigan opens fall training camp Sunday, Aug. 4, when both freshmen and upperclassmen report. The annual EMU Photo/Media Day is set for Sunday, Aug. 18, in Rynearson Stadium.

The Eagles will open their 122nd season on the gridiron with a non-conference home game against Howard Saturday, Aug. 31, in Rynearson Stadium.
