Bucknor was a Third Team NJCAA All-American at ASA College

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University women's basketball Head Coach Tory Verdi announced the signing of 6-foot-1 junior college All-America guard/forward Sashana Bucknor (New Haven, Conn.-Weaver) of ASA College in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Bucknor was recently named to the 2013 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I Women's Basketball All-America Third Team after guiding ASA to a program-best 25-4 overall record. ASA,  the No. 19 seed in the National Championship, notched a 74-68 victory over No. 14 seed Western Nebraska Community College.

Bucknor's expanded role in 2012-13 paid record dividends, as she averaged 12.4 points and 11.7 rebounds per game for the first-time District C champions and National Championship qualifiers. The New Haven, Conn. native reached double figures in 20 contests and double-digit rebounds in 21 games, equating to 16 double-doubles on the season. Her game highs in each category were 25 points against Clinton Junior College, Dec. 17, and 21 rebounds against Lenoir Community College in the ASA College Tournament, Dec. 22.

As a freshman for ASA, Bucknor hauled down 198 rebounds to go along with 28 steals and 22 blocks.

In high school, Bucknor averaged 11.9 points and 12.3 rebounds per contest  for the Beavers, earning Central Connecticut Conference North Division and New Haven Register Honorable Mention All-State honors during her senior season. Bucknor also led Weaver to the Connecticut Class M championship game for the first time in school history. She was ranked the 18th best player in the state of Connecticut by MaxPreps.com during the 2010-11 campaign.

Bucknor joins a talented EMU signing class that includes Ajai Meeks (Detroit, Mich.-Pershing-Providence-Schoolcraft), Haley Moore (Milford, Neb.-Milford), Janay Morton (Brooklyn Park, Minn.-Osseo), Cha'Ron Sweeney (Toledo, Ohio-Rogers) and Phillis Webb (Brooklyn Park, Minn.-Osseo) who signed with the Eagles during the early period in November.
