YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)
– The Eastern Michigan University baseball team committed four errors that ended up haunting the Eagles as they fell, 9-3, against Michigan State University on a chilly Tuesday afternoon, April 3, at Oestrike Stadium.

Joe Battistelli (1-4) recorded the loss for the Eagles (12-15), allowing seven unearned runs in the eighth inning courtesy of three errors by the EMU defense. The Green and White committed four errors on the evening as all nine MSU runs were unearned.

For Michigan State (17-8), Anthony Misiewicz (2-1) picked up the victory in three innings of relief, allowing only one hit. The top-three hitters in the lineup for the Spartans went 2-for-5 on the day as Cam Gibson, Ryan Richardson and Jordan Keur each tallied a pair of hits.

Freshman Tony DiLeo made the most of his third start of the season behind the plate by hitting his first-career homerun. DiLeo finished the day 2-for-4 with 2 RBI.

MSU broke through for an unearned run in the top of the second to take a 1-0 lead. Ryan Krill reached base on a fielding error by Marquise Gill and later scored on a Anthony Cheky RBI single.

In the bottom of that frame, Mitchell McGeein sent a one-out single to left field. The next batter was Tony DiLeo, who drilled a 1-0 pitch over the left-center field wall for a two-run shot and a 2-1 Eagles' lead.

The Spartans tied the game up in its next opportunity at the plate after getting a runner on base due to a fielding error by Marquise Gill. A passed ball, a fielder's choice, and a single through the right side advanced the runner all the way around to score, tying the game up at 2-2.

The game remained knotted at 2 until the top of the eighth where MSU once again took advantage of EMU miscues. It all started when Daniel Russell dropped a fly ball in center field. Following the error, EMU reliever Battistelli proceeded to hit the next two batters to load the bases. The floodgates opened for the Spartans as they scored 7 runs on five hits and three errors to take a 9-2 lead. Austin Wilson added a pinch-hit RBI single in the bottom of the inning, but the Eagles were unable to mount a comeback, falling 9-3.

The Eagles hit the road for a three-game Mid-American Conference series against Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio, April 5-7.
