Freshman earns her second MAC weekly award of the 2013 season
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Mid-American Conference announced Wednesday, March 6, that Eastern Michigan University gymnastics freshman Khadijah Hudson (Hebron, Ky.-Conner) has been named Gymnast of the Week for the period ending, March 3. The MAC Gymnast of the Week award is presented to a MAC gymnast who competes in more than two events during a competition.
This is the second weekly honor awarded to Hudson by the MAC this season. The conference named her Specialist of the Week, Jan. 23, for her performance in the season opener against Western Michigan, Jan. 19.
After sitting out due to having the flu, March 1, against Northern Illinois, Hudson put up a career-best performance against Southeast Missouri State, March 3. Hudson won the all-around competition with a 39.175, tying for the third-best mark in EMU history. The judges awarded Hudson a career-high 9.875 on the floor for a third place finish and the 10th highest mark in school history while also leading the Eagles on the bars with a 9.800, a career-high. The freshman phenom also tallied a 9.825 for a third-place tie on the vault, a mark that also tied her personal best. To round out her all around performance, the Hebron, Ky. native finished sixth on the beam with 9.675, leading her team to a season-best score of 194.675.
The EMU gymnasts return to Bowen Field House for the final time this season, hosting the Eagle Invitational, March 9, at 7 p.m. The quadrangular meet features the Air Force Academy, Kent State University and the University of Alaska Anchorage.
