Eagles went 0-4 in tiebreakers in the 4-3 setback to the Rockets
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team's team hoped to christen its new courts at the Claudia Wasik Tennis Complex with a victory over the University of Toledo Saturday afternoon, March 30, but the Rockets made sure that did not happen. Toledo was 4-0 in set tie-breaks en route to a 4-3 victory.
Eastern Michigan dropped to 6-11 overall and 1-2 league action, while Toledo evened it record at 8-8 and 1-2 in the MAC.
"This was a tough loss," said Head Coach Ryan Ray. "Going 0-4 in set tiebreaks does not finish the job. Toledo was better than us today in the end. We will recover from this, get ready to work next week, and go on the road to play stronger next weekend."
Dedicated back in October 2012, the Wasik Tennis Complex is named after Claudia Wasik who enjoyed a long and illustrious career at EMU, as a student, professor, coach and mentor during her 32-year professional affiliation with the University. Wasik coached the EMU women's tennis team from 1979-80 through 1990-91 and recorded a 162-108 overall dual-meet record. She was named Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year in 1986-87 when she led the then-Hurons to a second-place finish and was also named league Coach of the Year in 1983-84.
Eastern Michigan returns to the road Friday, April 5, for a match at Miami University followed by a Saturday, April 6, tilt at Ball State University. First serve for both matches is scheduled for 1 p.m.
