Hulvey Named Outstanding Diver, EMU Takes Fourth at MAC Championships

BUFFALO, N.Y. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving finished fourth in the 2013 Mid-American Conference Swimming and Diving Championships Saturday, March 2.
Danielle Hulvey earned Most Outstanding Diver of the Year award while Buck Smith was named the Diving Coach of the Year. Senior Briana Emig was given the Outstanding Senior Award for her performance at the MAC Championships. Emig and Hulvey also were named All-MAC First Team, while Jessie Godlewski earned the same accolades. Kelly Hendricks and Jacquelyn Swartz both earned All-MAC Second Team accolades.
Miami took first with 621, while Ohio placed second, scoring 605. Bowling Green was third with 467, EMU in fourth with 450, Buffalo took fifth at 421, Toledo scored 394 for sixth, Ball State took seventh at 345 and Akron took eighth with 302.
In the final day of competition, Emig took second in the 1,650-freestlye, touching the wall in 16:23.32, while Audra Burtch's 16:40.63 was good for fourth. Vanessa Weidner took fifth in the 200-breaststroke with a 2:17.09, while Monica Dorszewski's 2:17.84 earned 10th.
Godlewski shined for Eastern taking first in the 200-butterfly with a 1:57.70 which was a MAC Championship record. Swartz touched the wall in 2:00.99, good for sixth.
