Former EMU Wrestling Coach Willie Gadson Passes Away

Gadson guided the Eagles to their only MAC Championship in 1996
WATERLOO, Iowa (EMUEagles.com) — Former Eastern Michigan University Head Wrestling Coach Willie Gadson passed away Sunday, March 10, 2013, in Waterloo, Iowa. He was 59-years-old.
Gadson attended Huntington High School in Long Island, N.Y., and was a two-time NJCAA All-American at Nassau Community College in Nassau, N.Y., before he transferred to Iowa State University, where he earned Division I All-America honors for the Cyclones in 1975 and 1976.
After his competitive career, he turned to coaching and was the head coach at Eastern Michigan from 1992-97, leading the Eagles to their first Mid-American Conference championship in 1996. For his efforts, he selected the 1996 MAC Coach of the Year.
Most recently, Gadson was the head coach at Waterloo East School in Waterloo, Iowa. He also had stops at the prep level, including a stint as an assistant at Iowa City West High School before landing at Waterloo East in 2004.
The funeral services for Willie Lee "Coach" Gadson are set for 11 a.m. Monday, March 18, at East High School, 214 High Street, Waterloo, IA 50703. The services are being handled by Hagarty Waychoff Grarup Funeral Service, 300 West Ridgeway Waterloo, IA 50701.
