COLUMBUS, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team had multiple student-athletes competing in the 2013 Ohio State University Winter Invitational Saturday, Feb. 9. The Eagles saw both preliminary and finals competition Saturday afternoon.
In the women's preliminary events, the Eagles had all of its student-athletes qualify for the finals which are to be held Sunday, Feb. 10. In total, the Eagles had 10 finals qualifiers. Jessica Cavaiani and Amanda Paliska each led picking up second place finishes in their preliminary rounds. Paliska took second in the 100-butterfly with a 57.32 finish, while Cavaiani earned her finals visit with a 1:05.29 in the 100-breaststroke.
In the finals, Eastern saw Schultz pull a top-five finish in the 100-butterfly, touching the wall in 57.85, good for fifth. Schultz also earned a third place finish (4:36.14) in the 400-individual medley, while Brechneser followed in fourth (4:45.08). Cavaiani completed the 100-breaststroke finals in 1:06.16 to take fourth place.
Eastern continues to compete at the Ohio State Winter Invitational Sunday, Feb. 10, for the finale in Columbus. Action begins at 10 a.m.
