Freshman Clerveaux secures victory in the 60-meter hurdles

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team placed runner-up at the Mid-American Conference Championship inside Bowen Field House on Bob Parks Track, Feb. 22-23.
Kent State defended its conference title with 175 points as EMU followed with 94 points. Western Michigan University, the University of Akron and the University of Toledo rounded out the top five.
Vanessa Clerveaux recorded the Eagles' only victory of the day with an 8.31 in the 60-meter hurdles. The freshman also took third in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.55
Sophomore Victoria Voronko turned in a pair of runner-up finishes. The EMU record holder in the 3,000-meter run took second in 9:44.22 in the event. In the one-mile race, Voronko recorded a career-best 4:48.54, the sixth fastest time in school history. Teammate and senior co-captain Morgan Churchwell also ran a personal-best in the mile with a 4:54.09, good enough for eighth place in the EMU record books.
In the 400-meter dash finals, senior Asia Rawls (55.59) and freshman Latipha Cross (56.20) finished second and third, respectively. The duo also teamed up with Danielle Clark and Morgan Yeadon to take second in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:44.99.
Out in the field, a pair of team captains stood on the podium in the high jump. Tatijana Jacobson ended up in second place after leaping 5-feet 9.75 inches while Kate Wolanin jumped a career-best 5-feet 7.75 inches, putting her eighth in Eagles history.
EMU track and field athletes will have one last chance to qualify for nationals as they compete in the Alex Wilson Invitational at the University of Notre Dame, March 1-2.
