–  The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team currently sits in fifth place with 22.5 points after day one of the Mid-American Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships at Bowen Field House, Feb. 22.

Four Eagles qualified for the finals that will take place on Saturday, Feb. 23.  Freshman Vanessa Clerveaux qualified in both the 60-meter dash as well as the 60-meter hurdles. Asia Rawls and Latipha Cross earned spots in the finals for the 400-meter dash. Also, Aaliyah McKinney found a qualifying spot in the 200-meter dash.

While many of the preliminary races were ran on the first day of competition, there were a few finals that took place. The highlight for the Eagles came in the pole vault, as freshman Alysha Newman took home the conference crown with a leap of 13-feet 10.50-inches, setting a new EMU record. Moreover, not only was Newman's mark tied for the tenth best in the nation, but the Delaware, Ontario native's leap set a new Canadian Junior National record.

Team co-captain Kate Wolanin took eighth in the pentathlon with 3361 points while freshman Brittany Crew finished sixth in the shot put with a toss of 48-feet 1.75-inches.

To round out a solid day for the Eagles, the distance medley relay team of Morgan Churchwell, Asia Rawls, Marina Manjon-Rivadulla and Victoria Voronko placed runner-up with a time of 11:32.92, the second best mark in EMU history.

Day two of the MAC Championships takes place tomorrow, Feb. 23, on Bob Parks Track beginning at 10:00 a.m.
