International Student-Athlete Taxes and Mandatory Upcoming Meeting!

2/15/2013 9:12:00 AM | Compliance

As a reminder, EMU international student-athletes must pay the tax fees on their current ebill. Failing to pay by stated deadlines results in late fees of $42 EACH month the bill is unpaid.  EMU offers various payment options- http://www.emich.edu/sbs/acceptablepayments

On Tuesday, February 26th at 6:45 PM, Julia Wells from the Office of International Students will be hosting the 2nd of our 2 new annual INTERNATIONAL student-athlete meetings in Halle, Rm. G07A. Students must bring their 1042-S tax document and any other tax documents they received to the meeting.  Students that haven't received the 1042-S document in the mail should contact the Payroll office in the Hover building for a reprint.

This meeting will be to work with the international student-athletes on filing their non-resident alien tax returns to get back some of the taxes paid by ebill. It has been implemented to help students' understand the process and to avoid them forgetting to do it altogether. For more information on all that is entailed in this process click here.

The process can be confusing for many new students, thus it is REQUIRED that all new international student-athletes (attended for the first time in Winter or Fall 2012) attend this session to ensure they have a good base of knowledge for the next 3-4 years. All continuing international student-athletes are welcome to attend as well.
