EAST LANSING, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team completed the first day of action at the 2013 Green and White Invitational Saturday, Oct. 26. The Eagles met up with the host Michigan State University in doubles action before taking on the University of Louisville and Western Michigan University in singles play during Saturday afternoon.

In doubles play, the duo of Diana Davitaia (Tbilisi, Georgia-Cowley County Community College) and Maria Paula Ribero (Bucaramanga, Colombia) fell to the MSU duo of Bohrer/Faulkner, 8-6, while Klara Supejova (Prague, Czech Republic-Sportovni Gymnazium Klandno) and Daphne Friedrichs (Hufingen, Germany-Elisa Brandstrom Schule) were knocked off by Michigan State's Parenteau/Trouillet, 8-4. In the final doubles match of the day for EMU. In singles action, the Eagles saw all three schools at the invite. Davitaia fell to the Cardinals' Becca Shine in three sets, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0, while Supejova took down Louisville's Elle Stokes, 6-0, 6-2. Bhatia fell to Cassie Pough in two sets, 7-5, 7-5, and Toncheva fell to Michigan State's Athena Trouillot, 6-3, 6-4. Friedrichs saw a two-set loss to Olivia Boesing from Louisville, 6-1, 6-1, and Ribero defeated Katarina Lignl from Michigan State in a pair, 7-5, 6-2. Zsofia Biro (Pecs, Hungary-Tasi Sport School) knocked off the Spartans' Jennifer Yen, 6-3, 6-4.

EMU also went head-to-head against MAC foe, Western Michigan. The Eagles won the dual-match, 4-3, against the Broncos. Davitaia won her final match of the day against Meike Ashby , 6-3, 6-4, and Supejova's three-set win over Nini Sujashvili, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0, gave EMU a two-match lead. Bhatia gave the Eagles a three-match lead with a 7-6, 7-5 win against WMU's Caroline Aleck, before Toncheva's three set, 3-6, 6-2, 1-0, brought the Broncos within two matches, but Ribero would not let Western tie things up. She took down Tracy Kuhle in three sets, 3-6, 6-1, 1-0, to sure Eastern's win. Friedrichs finished out EMU's day with a three set loss to Yuriko Ono, 7-5, 0-6, 1-0 (11).

"I was impressed with the way we responded in our second round of singles today," said Head Coach Ryan Ray. "We were the unlucky team that had to play back-to-back singles with minimal rest, so some of the ladies played about five hours of singles with just about 20 minutes of rest.  With that in mind, I thought we fought pretty hard."

Eastern will complete its time in East Lansing Sunday afternoon, Oct. 27. The Green and White will take on both Western Michigan and Louisville in doubles, before hitting the courts against Michigan State in singles.
