YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University volleyball squad cruised to its second straight Mid-American Conference victory Friday, Oct. 25. The Eagles (13-11, 3-6 MAC) downed the University of Akron (6-13, 0-9 MAC) in straight sets, 27-25, 25-15 and 25-15 using a season-best .295 attack percentage.

Sophomore Katie Krasowski (Oak Lawn, Ill.-Marist) led the EMU offense as she tallied a career-best .833 attack percentage, going 10-for-12 at the net. The mark leads all Eastern offense for the 2013 season. Defensively the sophomore tacked on a team-high five block assists, while Stacey Perinar (Channahon, Ill-Minooka Community) added three block assists for the Green and White. Senior Erin Short (Orrville, Ohio-Orrville) notched nine kills in the match, while Perinar and Megan Crawshaw (Mattawan, Mich.-Mattawan) each added eight kills.

Corynne Smith (Norwalk, Ohio-St. Paul) led the defensive effort as she tallied a total of 19 digs which was good for a match-best between the two teams. Senior Paige Roback (Maumee, Ohio-Notre Dame Academy) looks to close in on her 1,000 dig as she notched eight on the night, bringing her within six of being just the seventh student-athlete in EMU history to record both 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs in her career.

The Green and White needed extra points in the first frame of the match to take down the Zips, 27-25. Eastern's offensive attack was strong in the opening set as they hit .255, with just three attack errors in the frame. Krasowski led the set, totaling five of her kills in the first frame, while hitting .714 after going 5-for-7 in her attack attempts.  Erin Short (Orrville, Ohio-Orrville) posted four kills in the first set, while Jill Briner (Oak Park, Ill.-Oak Park and River Forest (Northeastern)) notched three, hitting .600 on a 3-for-5 performance. Defensively, the Eagles had four total blocks, including a solo block from Crawshaw.

Eastern Michigan soared in its second set of the match. Stacey Perinar (Channahon, Ill-Minooka Community) and Crawshaw were the offensive forces in the second frame as Perinar notched five kills, and Crawshaw went 4-for-7 in her attack attempts. As a whole, the EMU offense was red hot, posting .324 attack percentage, with just four errors.  The Eagles held Akron to just an .086 attack percentage, forcing five attack errors in 35 tries, while converting just eight kills. Despite just one block in the frame from Krasowski and Perinar, the Eagles flew past the Zips, 25-15, to take a two set lead.

The Eagles took a quick 3-0 lead in the third set and commanded the tempo for the remainder of the match as they went up as many as eight over Akron in the final frame. Krasowski led the attack again for the Green and White going a perfect 3-for-3 at the net. Short, Perinar and Crawshaw each added two kills for Eastern, as their .324 attack percentage overpowered Akron's .057 in the last set. EMU closed out the set on a two-point run, capitalizing on two Zip attack errors to finish off Akron, 25-15, and take its second straight MAC contest.

Eastern will be back in action Saturday, Oct. 26 as it takes on the University at Buffalo in MAC competition. First serve at the Convocation Center in Ypsilanti, is slated for 7 p.m.
