Three Eagles Make it to Round of 32 at ITA Regional

Davitaia, Mebuke and Supejova each advanced to the round of 32 Saturday
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team completed the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional at the University of Michigan as it fell in the round of 32 in the singles draw, Saturday, Oct. 13.
Senior Nino Mebuke (Tbilisi, Georgia-English-Spanish School) led the Eagles off in the opening round of the main draw with a victory over DePaul University's Jarrett Fisher in two sets, while Diana Davitaia (Tbilisi, Georgia-Cowley County Community College) topped Kelsey Lawson from DePaul in straight frames as well. Klara Supejova (Prague, Czech Republic-Sportovni Gymnazium Klandno) received a bye moving the three of them into the round of 32.
The Green and White saw three Big Ten Conference foes in the round of 32. Mebuke dropped a two set match to Alicia Barnett from Northwestern University. Supejova took on Kristen Dodge from U-M and fell in a pair of sets. Davitaia ran into No. 36-ranked Ronit Yurovsky and was dispatched in two sets.
"As a whole, I'm pleased with the level of play from our team," mentioned Head Coach Ryan Ray. "Getting three players into the Final 32 in the region is something that I'm not sure has been achieved at EMU before, at least not in the recent history. We still have some areas to improve upon as we finish the fall competition schedule at MSU in two weeks. We definitely want a solid performance there heading into the spring."
The Green and White are off until the weekend of Oct. 26-27, when they travel to East Lansing, Mich. for the 2013 Spartan Invitational, held by Michigan State University.
