Baker and Iaquaniello Earn Academic All-MAC Accolades

Two EMU student-athletes named to the 22-member team
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University volleyball's Kristen Baker (Mentor, Ohio-Mentor) and Rachel Iaquaniello (Plymouth, Mich.-Dearborn Divine Child) were named to the Academic All-MAC Team by the Mid-American Conference Thursday afternoon, Jan. 10. The Eagles also had four members of its squad earn Academic All-MAC Honorable Mention for the 2012 campaign.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
Baker moved into third all-time in EMU laurels for block assists with 342 on her career. She posted 290 kills, which was second on the team while also posting 84 total blocks. The Mentor, Ohio native notched 15 double-figure kill performances during the 2012 season.
The senior was named the Most Valuable Player at the Mean Green Invitational, while also earning all-tournament honors at both the Memphis Invitational and Coke/Michigan Invitational.
A 2012 first team All-MAC selection, Iaquaniello led the Eagles with 554 kills and was tops in the MAC in kills per set (4.40), which ranked 20th nationally. The senior broke career records for the most kills (1,949) and attack attempts (5,755) in EMU history, while posting the eighth most aces (124) and digs (1,282) in school history. The Plymouth, Mich. native picked up 368 digs, good for 2.92 per set and maintained a .938 reception percentage. Defensively, she totaled 56 blocks at the net, while notching 20 double-double performances and was in double-figures for kills in 31 of the Eagles' 33 matches.
Iaquaniello was a 2012 Senior CLASS Award Finalist and Captiol One Second Team All-District award winner. The senior was named MAC West Offensive Player of the Week on three different occasions while also being named Most Outstanding Player at the Memphis Invitational. She was also named to the All-Tournament Teams at both the UIC Invitational and Mean Green Invitational.
Iaquaniello was one-of-two athletes that were unanimous decisions receiving 11-of-11 possible votes, as individual institutions are not able to vote for its own student-athletes. The other was Mary Kurisch of Northern Illinois University
EMU also had four members of its squad recognized as honorable mention award winners. Megan Crawshaw (Mattawan, Mich.-Mattawan), Kim Hildreth (Novi, Mich.-Novi), Paige Roback (Maumee, Ohio-Notre Dame Academy) and Erin Short (Orrville, Mich.-Orrville) each were named to the 2012 Academic All-MAC Honorable Mention list.
