EMU Baseball Family Kicks Off 2013 at First Pitch Banquet

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University baseball team held its fourth-annual First Pitch Banquet inside the EMU Student Center ballroom Saturday evening, Jan. 19. The event featured EMU alumnus and former pitcher in the Detroit Tigers organization Anthony Tomey.
“The food was great, the speaker was fantastic and congratulations on a great event,” remarked EMU baseball donor Roger DeShetler.
Tomey spoke about his journey through college and professional baseball as well as the benefits of taking advantage of life's opportunities outside of the game. Head Coach Jay Alexander also spoke at the occasion along with 2013 senior outfielder Daniel Russell.
Proceeds and donations from the dinner will help the EMU baseball team fund its spring trips as well as other projects to help enhance the team's performance throughout the season.
The Eagles begin the 2013 regular season Feb. 15 at Campbell University in Buies Creek, N.C.
