A late offensive onslaught in a six-minute span resulted in a pair of goals which lifted the Eastern Michigan University women's soccer team to a 2-0 win over IUPUI Friday, Sept. 7, at Scicluna Field. The Eagles (3-2-1) won their second straight match and redshirt freshman Jenna O'Dell came away with her second-career shutout.

The game remained scoreless until the 82nd minute, when a cross from Stephanie Clarke found fellow junior Cara Cutaia open in front of the net. EMU doubled its lead to 2-0 in the 88th minute, when sophomore Angela Vultaggio snuck past the IUPUI (1-6-0) defense to seal the game for the home team.

Cutaia's goal was her second in the last two games. The Burlington, Ontario native has six points (two goals, two assists) in her last three contests. Vultaggio also received an assist on the opening goal to earn a three-point outing.

O'Dell stopped all five Jaguars' shots en route to the victory, while EMU scored on two of its seven shots on goalkeeper Kristin Haseley.

With the victory, Eastern Michigan holds a winning record for the first time since the 2010 campaign. As a team, the Eagles now have 40 points (11 goals, 18 assists) on the season, which ranks among the top-three in the Mid-American Conference.

EMU nearly scored the game's first goal two minutes in as junior Chelsie Oddan lofted a cross-field pass to a wide open Clarke. Clarke broke in up the right side and sent a shot skipping just past the left goalpost and out of bounds.

A seemingly lopsided playing field evened out as the first half continued. Leading in total shots, 6-0, after 20 minutes, the Eagles were kept away from the attacking zone for much of remainder of the first half. IUPUI entered the break with a 9-8 edge in shots but had no goals to show for it.

In the 58th minute, Vultaggio passed a ball up midfield which found the foot of sophomore Bianca Rossi. Rossi collected the pass and turned up field only to be called narrowly offside. Vultaggio came close to scoring again in the 69th minute, when a shot from 20 yards out sailed just over the crossbar.

Finally in the 82nd minute, Clarke fed a crossing attempt into the penalty area. Clarke's pass found Vultaggio, who continued the ball to Cutaia. Perfectly positioned near the left goalpost, Cutaia slammed a shot home to put the Green and White ahead, 1-0.

Vultaggio added an insurance marker six minutes later, when she gathered a pass from Oddan and raced past several IUPUI defenders to notch a breakaway tally.

The Eagles travel to East Lansing, Mich. for a Sunday, Sept. 9, matchup with Michigan State University. Kickoff is set for noon.
