Eagles top just one match on final day of competition

MIAMI, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) — Head Coach Ryan Ray's Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team closed out the Florida International University Panther Invitational here Sunday, Sept. 30, with three wins in four matches.

"We had a solid weekend of competition," Ray said of his team's performance.  "The humidity was good for us to prepare for the altitude next week in a tournament with a strong field at Air Force."

The Eagles won both doubles matches with junior Diana Davitaia teaming with junior Nino Mebuke to hand South Alabama's Mariya Krachok and Ramona Ghermani an 8-4 setback. Freshman Klara Supejova and junior Mariya Toncheva won an 8-0 decision over the USA duo of Emily Newton and Mary Angela Martin.

In singles play, Davitaia defeated Krachok, 6-1, 2-1 (retired) while Mebuke was dropping a 6-3, 7-6 match to Martin.
