Volleyball Suffers 3-0 Setback at Ohio

EMU continues four-game road stint at Toledo, Oct. 5
ATHENS, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team dropped a second consecutive match in straight sets to Ohio University (20-25, 17-25, 23-25) Saturday evening, Sept. 29. The Eagles fell to 11-9 and 1-3 in Mid-American Conference play, while the Bobcats improved to 8-8 and 3-1 in the MAC.
As a team, Eastern Michigan hit just .067 over three sets, with Rachel Iaquaniello notching 10 kills and a .111 attack percentage to lead the way offensively. Paige Roback turned in a six-kill performance and Kim Hildreth tallied a double-double with 23 assists and 10 digs.
Ohio completed the sweep hitting .222 as a team. Two OU players, Chelsea Bilger and Kelly Lamberti, each recorded 14 kills with Lamberti also earning a double-double with 14 digs.
EMU opened the first set with a 7-3 run before Ohio went on a 9-0 run to take the lead for good. The Eagles managed just nine kills in the set and hit .000 with nine attack errors in 45 attempts. The Bobcats only hit .163 in the opening set, but managed to win, 25-20.
In the second set, the Bobcats carried their momentum over and led by as many as 11 before claiming a 25-17 victory. Eastern Michigan came out with a more solid effort in the third set, clawing back from a three-point deficit to take a 22-20 edge on a pair of Bobcats' attack errors. However, OU rallied with four straight points to bring up match point, 24-22. A kill by Iaquaniello made it a one-point contest, but Bilger made the decisive kill to earn Ohio the 3-0 win.
The Eagles continue their four-game road swing at the University of Toledo Friday, Oct. 5. The match is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
