Eagles win six of seven matches
MIAMI, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) — Head Coach Ryan Ray's Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team turned in an outstanding effort here Saturday, Sept. 29, in the second and final day of the two-day Florida International University Panther Invitational.
Competing against Florida International University in singles and the University of South Alabama in doubles, EMU won all five singles matches and one of the two doubles duals.
EMU junior Diana Davitaia defeated Rita Maisak, 6-0, 3-6, 6-2, while freshman Klara Supejova handed Giuletta Boha a 6-0, 6-1 setback. Junior Nino Mebuke defeated Lotte Gras, 6-3, 6-3, junior Mariya Toncheva defeated Nina Djordjevic, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 and sophomore Daphne Friedrichs won a 6-3, 6-0 decision over Magali Holt.
In doubles action against South Alabama the EMU duo of Davitaia/Mebuke defeated Emily Newton/Mary Angela Martin, 8-3. The only blemish on the day came at the other doubles match as South Alabama's team of Mariya Krachok/Ramona Ghermani recorded an 8-6 win over Supejova/Toncheva.
"We had a solid day today against good competition," Ray explained. "Despite the one loss, our doubles is improving. The ladies fought hard in their singles to get the sweep of all the matches against FIU. We need to keep the momentum going tomorrow."
The Eagles will play singles and doubles against South Alabama tomorrow.
