Eagles win two singles and one doubles match
MIAMI, Fla. (EMUEagles.com) — Head Coach Ryan Ray's Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team turned in two singles wins and one doubles win here Friday, Sept. 28, in the first day of the two-day Florida International University Panther Invitational.
EMU junior Diana Davitaia defeated South Alabama's Emily Newton, 6-7 (3-6), 6-2, 6-3, freshman teammate Klara Supejova handled South Alabama's Ramona Ghermani, 6-4, 6-4, and sophomore Daphne Friedrichs defeated Florida International's Lotte Gras, 6-1, 6-1, to post the three EMU singles victories.
Supejova and Mariya Toncheva teamed to knock off Florida International's Lotte Gras and Magali Holt, 8-2, to give the Eagles a split in the doubles action today.
"We had a mixed bag of results in the humid conditions," Ray said of his team's effort. "We got some strong wins at the top and a convincing win by Daphne (Friedrichs). I think we are competing well at times, but looking for some consistency."
In Saturday's, Sept. 29, action, the Eagles will play South Alabama in doubles and Florida International in singles.
