Eagles and Redbirds Play to 1-1 Draw in Exhibition Matchup

NORMAL, Ill. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University women's soccer team lifted the lid on the 2012-13 sports slate Sunday afternoon, Aug. 12, with a 1-1 tie in an exhibition matchup against Illinois State University. Sophomore Angela Vultaggio netted the goal for the Eagles, who played their lone preseason game of the year.
Vultaggio also registered six of Eastern Michigan's 12 total shots, one of which found the back of the net in the 71st minute. Redshirt freshman transfer Jenna O'Dell played 61 minutes in goal and did not allow an ISU tally. Freshman netminder Megan McCabe played the remaining 29 minutes and gave up one goal.
Sarah Mussallem scored the tying goal for ISU in the 86th minute to earn the Redbrids a 1-1 draw.
The Eagles open the regular season Friday evening, Aug. 17, when they host the University of Pittsburgh at Scicluna Field. Game time is slated for 5 p.m.
