OMAHA, Neb. (EMUEagles.com) — Day two of the U.S. Swimming and Diving Olympic Team Trials came to a close Tuesday, June 26 at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Neb, with several EMU swimmers representing the Green and White in a handful of events in hopes of punching their ticket to the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Briana Emig put together a 4:22.90 performance in the 400 freestyle preliminary morning session. Her efforts were good for 94th place out of 113 athletes. Allison Schmitt, who took the bronze in the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics, placed first in the event in 4:05.60.
Emig will wrap up her final event at the trials in the 800 freestyle on Saturday, June 30.
Brian Moore placed 89th in a tough 124-competitor field in the 200 freestyle event, which featured the likes of Michael Phelps, Peter Vanderkaay and Ryan Lochte. Moore touched the wall in 1:53.14, 5.0 seconds behind first place finisher, Lochte, to fall short of qualifying for the final heat and conclude his competition in Omaha.
Jacob Hanson competed in the 100 backstroke in 51st place, the highest finish by an Eagle thus far in the trials. He completed the distance in 57.01 to match University of Virginia recruit, Luke Papendick. Hanson will conclude action at the Olympic trials June 29 in the 200 backstroke event.
Former EMU standout Kevin Doak also took part in the 100 backstroke, placing 112th out of the 127 competitors in the morning session. He completed the event in 58.47. Doak will wait to compete again on June 30 in the 100 butterfly.
