YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)—
The Eastern Michigan University baseball team evened its series againt Mid-American Conference East Division foe Miami University here Saturday, March 24, with a 3-1 win at Oestrike Stadium. Brent Ohrman's two-RBI double broke a 1-1 tie in the sixth inning and pitchers Neil Butara and Paul Schaak took care of the rest.

The Eagles (7-14; 1-1 MAC) received another stellar pitching performance from Butara (2-1), who recorded a win for a second straight start. Butara built off last week's victory against Niagara, and tossed seven and one-thirds innings of one-run, nine-hit baseball. He also struck out four batters and issued a pair of walks.

Schaak came on with one out in the eighth and allowed just a single hit in the final one and two-thirds innings of the contest to earn his first save as an Eagle.

At the plate, Ohrman finished the afternoon 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Ohrman also stole his team-leading ninth base of the season in the sixth inning. Matt Hitt recorded the other Eastern Michigan RBI and went 1-for-3.

Brooks Fiala (2-3) pitched a complete game for the RedHawks (13-10; 1-1 MAC), but still ended up taking the loss. He allowed three runs (two earned) over eight innings while striking out five and walking one.

Miami's Ryan Brenner went 2-for-5 for a second straight day as the leadoff hitter, and Bryce Redker's (1-for-4) infield hit resulted in the RedHawks' lone run in the sixth.

Hitt drove in the game's first tally in the second inning on a line shot to centerfield. Lee Longo, who was standing on second because of a wild pitch, came around to score to give EMU its first lead of the series, 1-0.

In the fifth, Miami put the leadoff runner on base before Butara induced a double play ball off the bat of Max Andresen. Butara preserved the one-run lead for the Eagles by popping up Dan Walsh in foul territory for the inning's final out.

Tucker Rubino and Ben Magsig posted back-to-back two-out hits in the fifth to put runners on first and third. Bo Kinder then slapped Fiala's first offering to left field, but the ball was gloved to retire the side.

Miami pushed a run across in the sixth as Redeker sent a dribbler to shortstop and legged out an RBI single. The RedHawks continued to threaten as Kevin Bower walked to load the bases with one down. Butara hunkered down and forced John Crummy to fly out to left field. That was followed by a weak grounder to second base by Andresen to end the inning.

The Green and White responded in the bottom of the sixth with two runs to regain the lead, 3-1. Ott led off the inning with a single to left field. A sacrifice bunt attempt by Austin Williams was thrown wide of first base by Fiala allowing him to reach safely. Longo sacrificed Ott to third and Williams to second before Ohrman blasted a double to straightaway center to plate both baserunners.

After Butara worked a scoreless seventh inning, Schaak was called from the bullpen to strand a leadoff walk to start the eighth. The sophomore hurler gave up a single to Crummy, but got Nate Bowles to ground out to end the inning.

Schaak shut the door on the RedHawks in their final at-bat, striking out the final two Miami hitters.

The final contest in this three-game set is slated for Sunday, March 25, at 1 p.m. Ryan Lavoie (1-1) will look to earn the Eagles a series win against Shawn Marquardt (2-2).
