EMU Wrestlers Wrap Up Competition at NCAA Championships

Eagles post a combined mark of 4-8 at the national tournament

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (EMUEagles.com)— Eastern Michigan University wrestlers Jared Germaine (125 lbs.), Aaron Sulzer (157 lbs.) and Wes Schroeder (heavyweight) all completed their respective runs in the 2012 NCAA Championships Saturday, March 16, at the Scottrade Center. All three wrestlers were defeated in their only match of the day.
Eastern Michigan's four representatives at the competition posted a combined record of 4-8, with each grappler earning a victory.
Germaine, a redshirt sophomore, completed his season with a 24-11 overall record and a 1-2 mark at this year's national tournament. The Saginaw, Mich. native lost to No. 11 Matthew Snyder from the University of Virginia by way of fall at the 5:24 mark of the wrestleback-bracket match.
Redshirt junior Sulzer fell short, 7-2, against Tommy Churchard of Purdue University to finish the competition 1-2. The Cleveland, Ohio native completed his season with a record of 21-11 and reached the NCAA Championships for a second straight season.
Finally, Schroeder's quest to earn a top-eight spot at the tournament ended with an 8-1 loss to No. 11 Tucker Lane from the University of Nebraska. The redshirt senior concluded his career with a 2011-12 record of 19-17.
Redshirt sophomore Phillip Joseph, who was eliminated from the event Friday, also went 1-2 at nationals and finished the year with a 20-11 record.
