EMU PLAYS HOST TO OHIO: The 2011-12 Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team will close out is six-game foray into Mid-American Conference East Division play with a Saturday, Feb. 11, 4:30 p.m. home game in the Convocation Center against the Ohio University Bobcats.  The Eagles enter the game still holding on to the West Division lead at 5-5; 10-14 overall. EMU opened the 2012 MAC schedule with six straight games against the West Division followed by six in a row in cross-divisional play with the East Division.  After today's game Eastern will finish the MAC regular season with six straight games against teams from the West. The Eagles will have one non-league regular-season game left when the Green and White travel to Wisconsin to take on Green Bay Saturday, Feb. 18, in a Sears BracketBuster contest. Game time is 1 p.m. (CT) in Green Bay.

BIG SATURDAY: There will be plenty of action in the Convocation Center Saturday, Feb. 11.  The EMU women host Kent State at 2 p.m. followed by the men's matchup with Ohio scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. tip. It is also EMU Athletic Hall of Fame Day and Polish-American Day in the Convo. For more infomation, see page three of this release.

THE LAST TIME:  EMU and Ohio met just one time last year, as a Mid-American Conference divisional crossover game, and the Bobcats managed a 79-65 win, Jan. 26, 2011, in Athens, Ohio. Derek Thompson (Detroit, Mich.-Melvindale-SEMO) led the Eagles with 13 points while Ohio had three players in double figures, paced by Devaughn Washington with 20, Nick Kellogg with 15 and D.J. Cooper with 12. 

CHECKING THE SERIES:  Ohio holds a 43-22 edge in the series.  Ohio won last year's game, 79-65, Jan. 26, 2011, in the Convocation Center in Athens, Ohio. The two teams have split the last four games with EMU winning in 2009-10 (70-61) and 2007-08 (63-56) and Ohio recording victories last year and in 2008-09 (57-45).

SUPER SATURDAY:  The campus of Eastern Michigan University will be abuzz with action Saturday, Feb. 11, as seven of the school's intercollegiate athletic teams will compete either at home or around the region. Additionally, the E-Club, a group of former EMU varsity athletic letterwinners, will enshrine seven new members into the Athletic Hall of Fame.
This year's class will mark the 36th anniversary of the E-Club Athletic Hall of Fame. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. in the EMU Student Center followed immediately by a buffet luncheon.  The Class of 2011 includes:  Howard Booth (men's gymnastics), Ingrid Boyce Benn (women's track), Traci Parsons McMullen (women's basketball, women's track), Linda Milholland (softball), Jamie Nieto (men's track), Norm Parker (football) and John Schmidt (football).
Beginning at 1 p.m., the EMU gymnastics team will host the Broncos of Western Michigan University, inside Bowen Field House. WMU will look to remain undefeated on the season, while EMU is competing to capture its first Mid-American Conference win.
Then at 2 p.m. in the Convocation Center, Head Women's Basketball Coach AnnMarie Gilbert's team hosts Kent State University. The Eagles enter the game with a mark of 16-7 (8-2 MAC), tied with the University of Toledo atop the MAC West Division. Meanwhile, the Golden Flashes are 5-15 (4-6 MAC) after falling to Toledo, 66-55, in Toledo, Ohio, Feb. 4.
The women's game is the first part of a doubleheader with the Eastern Michigan men's basketball team, which tangles with Ohio University 30 minutes following the conclusion of the EMU-KSU contest. EMU, under first-year Head Coach Rob Murphy,  enters the game with a 10-14 overall record and a MAC West-leading 5-5 record. Ohio is currently 19-5 overall and 7-3 in MAC action.
Polish-American Heritage Day will also be celebrated throughout the hoops doubleheader with a Polish art show and historical exhibits. Polish dance troupes, folk music and Polish food items will also be featured. Magda Kaminski, a Polish pop-rocker, will be featured at halftime of both games to showcase her upcoming album.

TWO FOR THE LEAD: With the Eastern Michigan men's and women's basketball teams sitting in first place in the MAC West Division standings, the Eagles are in an elite category nationally. Heading into Thursday, Feb. 9, EMU is just one of eight schools across the 32 Division I basketball conferences that have both first-place men's and women's teams.
The other schools include: Atlantic Coast: Duke; MAC West Division: Eastern Michigan, Missouri Valley: Wichita State, Mountain West: San Diego State; Southeastern: Kentucky, SWAC: Mississippi Valley State, Sun Belt East: Middle Tennessee and Sun Belt West: Arkansas-Little Rock.

MOVING UP IN THE MAC STATS PICTURE:  As a team, the Eagles are in the top half of the Mid-American Conference in five categories heading into the Ohio game Saturday, Feb. 11. Eastern is second in the league in scoring defense (59.8 ppg), fourth in the league in 3-point field goal percentage-defense (.316) and  fifth in field goal percentage-defense (.411).  In addition the Eagles are fourth in blocks (3.4) and seventh in free throw percentage (.685).
Individually, senior point guard Darrell Lampley (Linden, N.J.-Linden-Lakeland (Ohio) C.C.) is ninth in scoring (13.5), second in free throw percentage (.866), 11th in three-point field goals made (1.6) and 15th in assist (2.6) while junior forward Jamell Harris (Euclid, Ohio-Euclid) is fourth in blocked shots (1.4).
