EAGLES MAKE NATIONAL NEWS: With the Eastern Michigan University men's and women's basketball teams sitting in first place in the Mid-American Conference West Division standings, the Eagles are in an elite category nationally.
Heading into Saturday, Feb. 25, EMU was one of just six schools across the 32 Division I basketball conferences that have both first-place men's and women's teams. The schools include:
MAC West Division: Eastern Michigan
Atlantic Coast: Duke
Southeastern: Kentucky
Sun Belt East: Middle Tennessee
Sun Belt West: UALR
SWAC: Mississippi Valley State
Under the direction of first-year Head Coach Rob Murphy, the men (12-16, 7-6) took over sole possession of the MAC's West Division Saturday, Jan. 28, and have held on to that lofty spot since that time.
Meanwhile, Head Coach AnnMarie Gilbert's women's team remains in the MAC West lead. The Eagles are 20-7 overall and 12-2 in MAC play.
