Eagles in the News.

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University Head Football Coach Ron English announced the 2012 football recruiting class Wednesday, Feb. 1, as part of the annual National Letter of Intent Signing Day.  The list includes 20 high school standouts and four talented junior college transfers.

The class exhibits quite a bit of variety as the Eagles will welcome student-athletes at 10 different positions, including six defensive linemen, four linebackers and four offensive linemen.

The largest group of Eagle newcomers - six - are from the state of Ohio, but EMU coaches fanned out across the country for this class with nine states represented. The Green and White added multiple players from Michigan (5), Illinois (4), Pennsylvania (3) and Arizona (2). California, Florida, Hawai'i and Indiana are also represented.

Two student-athletes from the 2012 class are already enrolled and taking classes at Eastern Michigan this semester, meaning they will be able to participate in spring drills, which begin Tuesday, March 13.  The pair of early enrollees includes Travis Linser (Glendale, Ariz.-Phoenix Northwest Christian-Phoenix College) and Cy Maughmer (Glendale, Ariz.-Apache Junction-Glendale C.C.).

The Eagles' recruiting success follows a record-setting season on the field and in the classroom. The team finished the 2011 season with a 6-6 overall mark and a 4-4 record in Mid-American Conference play. Coach English's team finished nationally in the top 50 statistically in seven categories to go along with eight top five rankings in the MAC standings. English was named Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year for his efforts.

Offensively, Eastern Michigan rushed for 2,620 yards and 16 touchdowns on 575 carries for the 14th-best ground attack in the nation. The total was the second most in program history trailing only the 1987 team that captured the 1987 Mid-American Conference title by running the ball 610 times for a total of 2,701 yards. It marked just the second time in school history that the Eagles rushed for more than 2,000 yards in back-to-back seasons.

Defensively, EMU ranked 34th nationally and third in the MAC in total defense. The Eagles gave up just 350.33 yards per game, an improvement of 103.8 yards per contest.  Additionally, the team averaged nearly six tackles for loss per game, the squad's highest total since 2001 when they had 82.

Following is a roster and biographical sketches for each of EMU's 24 signees…
