MADISON, Wis. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's cross country team traveled to Madison, Wis. Friday, Nov. 9, to compete in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional hosted by the University of Wisconsin.

The Eagles turned in an impressive showing by finishing 11th out of the 32-team field with a team score of 345.

EMU was once again led by First-team All-MAC sophomore Victoria Voronko. The sophomore finished 54th overall out of a field of 218 runners with a time of 21:37. Senior Morgan Churchwell finished just one second behind Voronko in 56th place individually running the 6K course in 21:38.

Following Voronko and Churchwell were junior Kayla Pfund, senior Rachel Quaintance, and sophomore Marina Manjon Rivadulla who finished 65th, 78th, and 92nd, respectively, to round out the top five scorers for EMU.

"This was our best regional finish in a good number of years, commented Head Coach Sue Parks. "I'm pleased that we were able to finish the season with our best race and defeat two MAC teams that were ahead of us two weeks ago. We had a tight pack between our 1-5 for the first time this fall. I'm proud of the team and hopeful that we can carry this momentum into the upcoming track season."

Coach Parks was right on target with her comment about the Eagles' best regional finish in years. In fact, the eleventh place finish is the best regional finish since the Eagles took ninth in the 2000 Great Lakes Regional. Also, the Eagles topped Central Michigan and Ohio who finished higher than Eastern at the MAC Championship, Oct. 27.

Sophomore Cara Smock and freshman Rebecca Quaintance also competed for Eastern, posting times of 22:45 and 23:54, respectively.

The University of Michigan took the team title with a score of 41. Ohio junior Julie Accurso, coming off an individual MAC Championship two weeks ago, took the individual title with a time of 20:07.
