Freshman Klara Supejova turns in runnerup finish to lead the Eagles
COLORADO SPRINGS, Col. (EMUEagles.com) — Head Coach Ryan Ray's Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team had an good final day here Sunday, Oct. 7, in the third and final day of the three-day Air Force Academy Invitational. Sunday's play was all singles action.
“When you reach the semis of all the flights, the competition gets pretty stiff in a tourney this strong,” Ray explained. “ We had some good wins today, and got challenged in others. The weekend as a whole was good progress, and look to finish strong at the regional in two weeks.”
Freshman Klara Supejova led the Eagles Sunday with a runnerup finish in the Bravo Flight. Supejova lost a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Texas Tech's Nikki Sanders in the championship final match.
Junior Nino Mebuke came up with a third-place finish in the Charlie Flight. She lost to Oregon State's Maria Alvarez in the semifinals and came back in the third-place match to knock off Washington State's Ksenia Googe, 6-2, 6-0.
Sophomore Daphne Friedrichs also turned in a third-place finish, coming back to beat Wyoming's Jessica Perizher, 5-7, 6-4, 10-3.
